Superstar Wizkid has surprised fans with a new 6-track EP titled Lagos to London, featuring collaborations with international artists and celebrating the global reach of Afrobeats.

Superstar Wizkid has surprised fans with the unexpected release of a new six-track EP titled "Lagos to London," dropping the project on all major streaming platforms at midnight without any prior announcement or promotional campaign.

The EP represents a creative departure for the artist, blending his signature Afrobeats sound with elements of UK garage, grime, and dancehall. The title track features a collaboration with British rapper Stormzy, while "Island Vibes" pairs Wizkid with Jamaican dancehall icon Vybz Kartel. Other tracks include the introspective "Homecoming" and the club-ready "Turn Up."

"I wanted to make something that reflects where I've been and where I'm going," Wizkid said in a brief statement posted to his social media accounts. "Lagos made me. London raised me. The world is next."

The surprise release strategy, known in the industry as a "drop," has become increasingly common among major artists. Wizkid's last album, "More Love, Less Ego" (2022), was preceded by months of promotional buildup. This EP's unannounced arrival generated immediate buzz across social media, with the hashtag #LagosToLondon trending worldwide within hours.

Streaming data from Spotify and Apple Music showed remarkable first-day numbers. The EP amassed over 12 million streams globally in its first 24 hours, with "Lagos to London" featuring Stormzy accounting for nearly 40% of total plays. In Nigeria, all six tracks occupied the top six positions on Apple Music's local chart.

Music critics have responded positively. Pitchfork awarded the EP a 7.8 rating, praising its "confident genre fusion" and noting that Wizkid "sounds more artistically liberated than he has in years." The Guardian described it as "a love letter to the diaspora experience that never loses sight of its Lagos roots."
